Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

When Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was about to come out in a week, I asked my mom to buy special discount theatre tickets from Costco. After so, I clutched them in my hands waiting for its premiere, wearing out the paper tickets’ corners and edges. But then I came down with a nasty cold, starting with fever and indigestion. I waited patiently on the bed for a week and finally, I traded the special discount theatre tickets for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince tickets. My mom and I saw the movie last night and we were bored.
My mom and I have been watching the Harry Potter series since the first one came out and each did not disappoint us until this one. It was a drag. It was painfully slow. I fidgeted in my movie seat entire time and waited for a climax of wizardly action. Climax passed. Wait, that’s the climax? Sigh. Really, this movie is a boring teenage angst made for teenagers.
“You have to read a book to make sense.” No, I don’t have to read a book to make sense. It’s a poor excuse from making a great movie like Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. At least, that movie makes sense and the pace is great with action and emotions. The movie should be made for all including non-readers so next time, when you make a movie based on books or series, you need to have good overall plot, good pace, and good elements.
The visual effect is stunning and they did a fine job with computer graphics. The acting was fine. That’s the only positive thing I can say about it.
Because Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is one of the series, this movie serves only one purpose for a must see, how Voldemort became immortal. That is it. If it is a stand alone movie, it would suck the whole lot. That is why you see positive ratings on this movie because it ties to the great previous movies.
I would not waste money on it in the theatre if you haven’t seen already. I would wait for the DVD to come out and have someone else rent it for you from Blockbusters.

Each person have a different perspective on this movie. I went to the movie theatre with my brother and friends. We all enjoyed it. My brother was the only one who have read all of the books out of the group. He said that it was completely different from the book. Sure, some things were similiar but he agreed that the book was much better than the movie. However, a lot of people enjoyed this movie because of the special effects and the developing romance between Harry, Ginny, Ron and Hermione. Harry Potter is really more for young adults, yes, but some older adults do enjoy it. So that’s probably why you feel that way, but I do not blame you. There were some moments where I was like “..heh, alright..” but I have to admit, some parts were adorable, especially those parts about Hermione and Ron.
I only have read the first book, and I do plan on reading the other books when I have time. You’re right; this movie did show how Voldemort became immortal and that was interesting to see, visually. I know some people prefer movies over books because they have to see the visual elements from the books to be able to understand.
They will make two more Harry Potter movies then that’s the end of the Saga.
So let’s see what happens!
