NAD Announced CEO position

National Association for the Deaf has announced a vacant seat for CEO of NAD. NAD posted a job description on its website and is looking for someone to qualify to be a CEO. The deadline to apply is March of this year.

National Association for the Deaf was established in 1880 by deaf leaders who fought for the civil right of the American deaf community to use sign language, to be involved with important issues and to have its interests represented at the national level. Until now, the leaders were deaf but if CEO is a hearing person, would that be okay? If a hearing person has all the qualities that NAD is looking for, then would he or she can become CEO of a deaf organization?

While ago, Gallaudet University protested that the president of Gallaudet should be deaf, not a hearing person. If NAD appointed a hearing person as CEO, then would deaf community protest against it? Would they go for a deaf person who is less qualified than a hearing person?

The job description that NAD provided, it didn’t exclusively say the person should be deaf. As long as a person can carry on the goals and beliefs of NAD, then anyone who is fully qualified should become CEO regardless if they’re deaf or not.

It can be okay as long as the Deaf Community know what he or she is saying. In sign language. It could be CODA who knows pretty much of Deaf Culture, Awareness and Differences of what is like to be deaf. Give a try and if not work out good then change to the right person.

Thumb up Thumb down +1
